The Relationship Between Smoking Behavior and the Incidence of Pulmonary TB in Patients in Polyclinics Internal Medicine at Andi Djemma Masamba Hospital

Background: Data from the South Sulawesi Provincial Health Service report for 2021 recorded 31,022 estimated TB cases in South Sulawesi, of which only 14,808 cases were notified, which is only 47.73%. This means that there are still around 53% whose whereabouts are unknown amidst a large threat of transmission.This study aims to examine the relationship between smoking and the incidence of Tuberculosis in the internal medicine polyclinic at Andi Djemma Masamba Regional Hospital in 2022.Method: This type of research is quantitative with a case control design. The research sample was 20 respondents' data from 2022 with smoking behavior between the incidence of pulmonary TB. The sampling technique is Consecutive Sampling. Research data was obtained from secondary data that was available at the internal medicine clinic at Andi Djemma Masamba Regional Hospital. Data analysis uses the Chi-Square Test. Results: The research results showed that there were 10 respondents who smoked (50.0%), respondents who did not smoke were 10 people (50.0%), while respondents who did not have pulmonary TB were 9 people (45.00), and respondents who did not have pulmonary TB were 11 people. person (55.00). From the Chi square test, the results obtained were p value ≤ 0.002, there was a relationship between smoking behavior and the incidence of pulmonary TB.Conclusion:. There is a relationship between smoking behavior and the incidence of pulmonary TB in patients at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at Andi Djemma Masamba District Hospital. Suggestion: Health workers are expected to increase health promotion regarding the dangers of smoking and its relationship to Tuberculosis for individuals, families and groups/communities.
